3rd Rail Print Space Member Spotlight: Dutchscot Studio

Dutchscot is a ‘thinking and doing design studio’ who have recently moved into the largest private studio in 3rd Rail Print Space. The team combine knowledge, beauty and audacity to create original, long lasting and meaningful work that lives happily in any of the usual disciplines (as well as some unusual ones). Dutchscot trust intuition but back it up with experience at some of the most renowned design and branding agencies around.

How did Dutchscot form and where does the name come from?

Dutchscot was orignially formed between two friends, one half Scottish, one half Dutch. The name also reflects our very collaborative approach.

How would you describe your approach to design? 

We are a multi-disciplinary design studio but focus mainly on branding. We are a small team of experienced designers who thrive off partnering with other specialists including: writes, photographers illustrators, fashion designers etc. We believe in strong ideas beautifully executed. We don’t follow trends, and do not have a house style. We always aspire to create designs that will stand the test of time.

What briefs or projects have you enjoyed working on the most? 

We’re fortunate enough to work on lots of interesting projects. We’re currently working on a project for Westminster Fire Station which is being turned into boutique apartments and a restaurant. We are doing everything from the branding, to the brochures, website, hoarding and signage. We also do work for Royal Mail, we pitched on two sets if stamps recently which is always an honour. We also do a lot of restaurant branding work which often allows us to have a very creative approach and work with some really interesting partners from pattern designers to letterpress artists.

What are you currently fascinated by and how is it feeding into your work?  

We have lots of different points of inspiration and are always trying to work with new techniques, partners and practises. The varied nature of our clients allows us to explore lots of different sectors and industries.
