General Questions
Do you sell any printing supplies?
We sell a wide range of inks, binders and printing supplies which can be purchased directly from our website shop HERE and either collected from the studio or delivered to an address of your choice. Shipping typically takes 1-3 working days, if we anticipate it will take longer we’ll be in touch to let you know.
Do you sell paper or t-shirts?
We sell a wide variety of blank garments which can be ordered in for you direct from one of our suppliers meaning all our members can take advantage competitive wholesale prices. If you’re interested in ordering t-shirts but unsure of which brand to go for we suggest browsing through some of the most popular styles here: https://3rdrailclothing.co.uk/catalogue/
Unfortunately with the exception of newsprint we don’t currently hold any paper stock for sale. If members require paper for a project we advise ordering direct from John Purcell Paper and having it delivered to the studio. Delivery is free but does take 2 working days so please take this into account when making your purchase.
What is the turnaround time on film?
If you place your order Monday-Friday we can normally run the film off the same day however extremely large files may take longer. If you need your film for a specific date we suggest calling in advance to make sure it will be ready in time.
Do you offer student discount?
We really value the creative student and graduate community in London and offer 20% discount across all our products and services. That includes everything from memberships and products to workshops and courses.

Student discount is available to both current students and those who have graduated within the last 12 months.
How do I find 3rd Rail Print Space?
We’re located on the first floor of Peckham Levels – the converted multi storey car park behind Peckham Plex cinema.
You can reach us via London Overground, Rail or Bus. If you’re coming from Peckham Rye exit the station and cross the road to Santander bank. Once there go up the walkway toward Peckham Plex, turn left and keep following the building round. You should be able to see a large arrow marking the entrance of Peckham Levels, go through this door and up one flight of stairs to get to our floor. If you don’t have a fob you’ll need to ring the door bell to enter this part of the building.

What are your opening days and hours?
3rd Rail Print Space is open to the public from 8:30am – 5:30pm. You don’t need an appointment so please pop along.
Membership Access hours are from 7am-12am 7 days a week. We’re currently working towards offering 24 hour access to all our monthly members which should be in place by April 2017.
Is a technician always on site?
Technicians are on site from 8.30am-5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am-5pm on Saturdays. If you think you might require some assistance please ensure you book printing slots within these hours.
Can I print my films at 3rd Rail Print Space?
Yes you can! If you would like to get film printed please send email your artwork to hello@3rdrailprintspace.co.uk, it’s useful to include information about the substrate and ink you’ll be using as well as dimensions. Our films are produced using state of the art large format Inkjet and rip technologies to produce high blacks and great quality halftones. Films can be turned around within 24-48hours and collected from 3rd Rail Ltd, 52-56 Verney Road, London, SE16 3DH Monday to Friday. Prices are as follows:

If your artwork requires separation we can also provide this service to ensure the output is compatible for screen printing. This will include color separations, re-sizing, creating half tones and making artwork suitable for repeat print runs. I’ve printed before but don’t feel confident signing up for a membership, what do you suggest?
If your screen printing knowledge is a bit rusty we recommend signing up for a one of our 1 Day Workshops or Intermediate Courses. It’s a great refresher and will cover everything from artworking and screen prep to set up, ink mixing and of course printing.
People interested in signing up for a membership after completing a workshop with us will receive their induction for free (normally £30).
Membership Questions
What is a studio membership?
There are 5 private studio spaces available to hire on a monthly basis. These are ideal for potential members who require use of an open access screen printing studio but also need studio space to accommodate their business or practice. Sizes and prices of the studios are as follows:
- Studio 1 – 185sqft – £700pcm
- Studio 2 – 130sqft – £500pcm
- Studio 3 – 130sqft – £500pcm
- Studio 4 – 130sqft – £500pcm
- Studio 5 – 385sqft – £1500pcm
All studio’s include access to the main print space.
What is a desk membership?
There are 24 desk spaces available to hire on a monthly basis. These are ideal for potential members who require use of an open access screen printing studio but also need desk space to accommodate their business or practice. Each desk area measures 90cm x 150cm and includes the following:
- x2 free screens*.
- Access all areas (including large format heat press, bullet steamer, infra-red baker, kitchenette)
- Free Wi-fi.
- Bike Storage within Peckham levels.
- Opportunity to participate in exhibitions and open studio events.
- Special Discount offers throughout Peckham levels.
What is an open access membership?
This is our most popular membership option and includes 50 open access hours to use at 3rd Rail Print Space. The studio is open from 7am-12am and members can use their monthly 50 hour quota to book onto one of the 4 paper tables, 2 fabric tables or 6 arm t-shirt carousel within this daily window. Screens can be prepared outside of this time and top-ups can be purchased if members exceed the monthly allowance. An open access membership also includes:
- x2 free screens*.
- Access all areas (including large format heat press, bullet steamer, infra-red baker, kitchenette)
- Free Wi-fi.
- Bike Storage within Peckham levels.
- Opportunity to participate in exhibitions and open studio events.

How do I sign up for a membership?
This can be done either online, on the phone or by visiting us when the studio manager is on site which is normally Monday to Friday between 8.30am – and 5.30pm although we strongly advise phoning in advance to make an appointment.
If you would like to sign up online head to our website and navigate to Print With Us > Book Access. From here select from either the Monthly Print or Monthly Desk Membership, unfortunately Monthly Private Studio Memberships currently have to be purchased either over the phone or in person. Once you have made your selection head to the Cart and complete your purchase. You will be charged a £30 for your studio induction and a month in advance which will be used as a deposit, this will be refunded to you once you cancel membership your membership.
Once you have completed this process your account and rolling monthly payments are set up, you will now be able to log in an book onto the one of the paper or fabric tables or the t-shirt carousel by navigating back to the Book Access section.
If I don’t want to sign up for a monthly membership can I still print with you?
Yes you can choose to use our Pay As You Go membership instead which is charged at £150 for 15 hours. Once signed up your hours must be used within 6 months. You will have access to all studio equipment and you are able to 1 hour slots for your screen preparation time.
Can I bring and use my own screens?
Yes that’s perfectly fine however please be aware that in most cases we won’t have the capacity to store your personal screens on site.
I’m an experienced printer, do I still need an induction?
Every member regardless of their skill level requires an induction so that they can familiarise themselves with our particular set up and equipment. Our insurance policy does not cover members who have not been inducted.
Can I make my screens outside of carousel or table booking time?
Yes you can. Your monthly studio hours refer to the time you spend using carousels/tables only. Outside of these bookings you’re welcome to spend as much time as you need in the studio mixing inks, preparing screens or just getting set up.
Do I have to buy a fob?
Fobs aren’t compulsory but we do recommend purchasing one if you intend to use the studio outside of technician hours as you may struggle to access the building otherwise. Fobs also double up as your Peckham Levels discount card giving you a 10%-20% discount across most businesses including the bars and food kiosks on levels 5 and 6.
Why do I have to pay a deposit to join?
Deposits cover us against any damage you may cause to the equipment or the space during your time as a member. Should you wish to terminate your membership your deposit will also go towards covering the rent for your final month.
What does the induction involve and how long does it take?
The induction will cover a thorough tour of the studio as well as operational aspects of all equipment regardless of your chosen discipline. We’ll show you how to use all the machinery including exposure unit, tunnel dryer and the printing beds as well as touching on screen coating and exposing. This will also be a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have about using the studio.
Run times can vary depending on the size of the group but inductions normally take about an hour.
What storage do I get with my membership?
Each monthly member receives a locker and either a storage box or plans chest drawer to store their materials. Unfortunately we don’t currently offer storage for Pay As You Go members.
Can I bring someone with me to help with printing?
You’re welcome to bring an assistant to help you with your project or job however if they want to print their own work they will need to sign up for a separate membership.
Workshop Questions
Do you run kids workshops?
We don’t currently run a regular kids workshop programme however we are taking bookings for group workshops which are perfect if you are planning a birthday party or other special occasion. Sessions run for 2 hours with prices starting at £10pp depending on the activity.
When is your next workshop?
The best way to find out when the next workshop is on is to head to our Workshops page, click on the item you’d like to book and scroll down to the calendar, all upcoming dates will be highlighted in green and listed here. If you can’t see any upcoming dates drop us an email to hello@3rdrailprintspace.co.uk with a date suggestion and we’ll do our best to accommodate it.
How often do you run your intermediate courses?
We aim to run 6 intermediate courses per year but the actual number is largely dependant on demand. Each course is 12 hours long and split between either 4 evenings or 2 consecutive weekend days. To check availability or book please head to https://www.3rdrailprintspace.co.uk/workshops/.
Can I buy a workshop as a gift?
Yes you can, we sell gift vouchers for both our 1 Day Workshops and Intermediate Courses which are shipped first class on the day of purchase. Each voucher with comes with a unique code which can be redeemed against a workshop of the recipients choice within 12 months of issue.
What is your workshop cancellation policy?
We can only offer a refund if a request is made no later than 10 days before the workshop date. After that time you are welcome to transfer to another date however we won’t be able to offer refund.
Do I need to supply any of my own materials for the workshop?
The price of the workshop includes all materials however if you’d like to print your own pre-existing design then you’d need to bring this with you to the workshop, either as a digital file or on a piece of paper which can be scanned.
We supply standard white t-shirts, 330gsm Southbank Smooth paper, white jersey and white cotton drill in our workshops. If you’d like to print on materials other than these it is possible to bring them along providing you let us know in advance so that we can check that our inks will be suitable.
I’ve completed a 1 Day Workshop and am interested in doing the Intermediate Course, can I get a discount?
Yes you can, anyone who has completed a 1 Day Screen Printing Workshop with us is entitled to a £65 discount on the intermediate course taking it down to just £100 (regular price £165). To take advantage of this offer please email hello@3rdrailprintspace.co.uk.
Studio Questions
Is there bike storage on site?
Yes! You can store your bike inside Peckham Levels while visiting the studio. Please note that though monitored by CCTV the storage facility is not 100% secure therefore we strongly advise you still use a bike lock. For more details about the location of bike storage areas within the building please enquire with the security team on level 1.
Do you run any Open Studio events?
We always take part in the Peckham Levels Open Studios which happen twice a year (summer and winter) where we open up the space to the public, showcase members work and put on a pop up market. This is normally also an opportunity to run specialist workshops, taster sessions and live print experiences for visitors. Aside from this we also try to be involved is as many local events as possible, on of our highlights for example is Peckham Festival.
Do you offer screen hire and how much does it cost?
We have a large stock of screens available to hire for both Monthly and Pay As You Go members. Cost of hire depends on the screen size, type of membership and the duration of the hire. A breakdown of the costs can be found below:

Do you offer a screen coating and exposure service and how much is it?
We over a high quality exposing service on any frame size up-to 175cm x 125cm.
