Indigo shibori & tie dye with Jess Chan | Saturday 26th February
Learn different shibori methods using indigo with Jess Chan.
Jess Chan is a designer maker specialising in Printed Textiles and Natural dyes, with colour playing an important role within the design process. Her designs are inspired by botanical nature and geometry, intertwining texture through mark making.
Jess’ research into Natural dyes has led to an Artist Residency in Oaxaca, Mexico.
After completing her MA in Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art in 2011, she has since then taught short courses at Central Saint Martins and currently works at Wimbledon College of Art as a Dye Technician.
For this workshop we will go through the process of setting up a natural indigo vat using the fructose method, learning about the process of creating the colour blue and the importance of preparing the fabrics for dyeing.
You will learn shibori techniques of clamping, folding and stitching to produce a range of samples out of OEKO-TEX silk and organic cotton. You will also be provided with an organic cotton tea towel and are most welcome to bring in your own fabrics/clothing to dye (natural fibres only).
This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in natural dyes or wants to learn something new!
All materials will be provided, please bring an apron, rubber gloves, a notepad and pen/pencil.
The workshop will run from 10am – 4pm with an hour break for lunch (not provided).
